Zach and Whit’s Wedding

by Kelly on January 11, 2014

IMG_2015

Yippee! The wedding pictures finally arrived! Here’s some shots of the couple: Zach and Whitney Bates. The photography was done by Elizabeth Zellon and Chad Paine. Coming up, I’ll post pictures of them getting ready, the ceremony, the bridal party, and the reception!! Hope you don’t mind several posts of wedding pictures, cause we’re like a couple of old people that love to pull out their wallets, getting sentimental about pictures of our children!

Dear Denise,
The bottom of her dress is black…lol…It was a rainy day, but perfect for pictures! Yes, I LOVE my new in-laws!!! I absolutely don’t think I could be any happier. We’ve been on several dates together, had game night together at Erin’s, movie night together at Zach’s, and I had a lunch date and cooking day with Erin and Whit! Soooooo fun!!! The siblings take turns spending time at the couple’s houses. It’s been wonderful. I’m blessed more than words can describe! Love, Kelly

Congratulations! Whitney’s dress is beautiful. Was she able to find a modest dress or did she have to have it altered?

Reply

Kelly January 12, 2014 at 12:29 am

Dear Nan,
It was strapless and low cut, so she added a jacket. To make it higher, David’s Bridal added a strip of wide ribbon that was covered with beads and jewels. Love, Kelly

The wedding pictures are absolutely amazing!! Was the pictures taken before or after the wedding ceremony? Did Whitney do her own hair and makeup she looked very beautiful. Zach and Whitney looked so in love and extremely happy:) Continued blessings to all the loving couples Zach & Whitney, Erin & Chad, Alyssa & John, Michaela & Brandon!! I was wondering how each couple met and how they have known each other? Do you think Alyssa and Michaela will wed this year? God bless

Reply

Kelly January 20, 2014 at 6:05 am

Dear Lee,
The bride with the bridesmaids and the groom with his groomsmen pictures were taken beforehand, but others were taken after the ceremony because Zach and Whitney didn’t want to see each other. All of the couples met through our homeschool group, except Zach & Whit, who met locally at the Sonic, where she works. Alyssa plans to get married this spring, but Brandon and Michael are not setting a date yet. Love, Kelly

Bree January 12, 2014 at 8:32 pm

Dear Penny,

I am sorry, maybe you had completely different intentions writing that comment, but I would like to add my thoughts on this, too.

I think there is absolutely nothing immodest about how this newly married couple shows their love and affection for each other in their Wedding photos!
I, for one, am totally worried if a newly-wed couple looks tense or totally fixed on the camera lense, as you can see so often in wedding pictures…
Erin and Chad’s wedding pics leaned towards the more funny and romantic kind while Zach and Whitney’s are showing more affection.
After all, those wedding pictures show two young, enamored, married couples and their individuality and that in itself makes them perfect! In my humble opinion, they do not at all come near anything ‘racy’.
No offense, of course!

Dear Kelly,

Thanks for posting pictures of the wedding for all of us to see! Those two look stunning and so in love! What more can a mother hope for than for her children to meet their soulmate and find happiness!?
It is great to see Zach so happy.

Whitney’s dress is among one of the most beautiful dresses I have seen! So very well done!

Love, Bree

Go right ahead and share all the picture you want! :) I am certainly enjoying them. Red is my favorite color so I love these pictures. Is red Whit’s favorite color or did she just pick it because of the season?

Reply

Kelly January 12, 2014 at 4:41 am

Dear Rebekah,
Whitney loves bright colors. They had originally thought about a spring wedding with hot pink, orange, and yellow. Christmas seemed to be a better time for their wedding, and much cheaper since the church was decorated for Christmas. Thus, their colors changed to match the season, but they do love those colors. Hey Kelly,

You are such a wonderful example of how to raise children so they are in service to the Lord. I have a question. I know that you all live a frugal lifestyle. How do you save money on things that can’t be bought used like cosmetics, toiletries, and fragrances?

Disa

Reply

Kelly January 20, 2014 at 6:01 am

Dear Disa,
The girls buy cheap perfumes (unless their fellas buy the perfume, then they get nice brands!) They buy their makeup from Wal-Mart so its much cheaper than brands at the mall. It does all add up, though…especially hairspray…lol! We’re not able to be as frugal with these purchases as we are buying close to date food items or bulk quantities, etc. Love, Kelly

Reply

Disa January 12, 2014 at 4:13 am

Also, I love the boots! Where did they get those?

Reply

Kelly January 12, 2014 at 4:26 am

Dear Disa,
I believe they came from a western boot outlet in Pigeon Forge, that runs an add for buy one, get two free. Love, Kelly

Dear Kelly & Bates Family,

I think the love and affection shown in these wedding photos are beautiful and tasteful. Of course they are also passionate….And why shouldn’t they be..They are Married!!! How can you not want to hold the one you love?? I believe by letting them express affection during courtship is healthy preparation for marriage. Do you agree?
Fondly
Allison from the Jersey Shore

Reply

Kelly January 17, 2014 at 7:10 pm

Dear Allison,
I agree affection in a pre-marriage relationship is important, but its also extremely important for the couple maintain purity. I think relationships leading to marriage should have love, wholesome affection, etc…but there is that constant temptation to go further and do more, so caution must be taken as well! For example, Erin said she’s so glad she waited to hold hands and hug until engagement, because it gave them something to look forward to, but also kept them from doing too much too soon. They still showed plenty of affection for each other, but saved those special moments. I think affection can be shown through letters and gifts, gestures of thoughtfulness, etc. There’s lots of creative, wholesome ways to show your love to someone. Adding chaperones, accountability, commitments to purity, and humility to the relationship can help them show their affection, while maintaining purity!:) Love, Kelly

Reply

Kelly January 17, 2014 at 6:58 pm

Dear Jess,
I’m super, super close to both Zach and Erin. They would usually spend a lot of time talking and communicating with me each day. Many nights, they sat at the foot of my bed for hours…keeping me awake, lol…talking, laughing, catching up, sharing. So, I miss those moments, but they STILL stay in touch very frequently. I see them almost every day and get several calls or texts a day…lol! We go on double dates together or have a game night together. We go to church together…so that has been a lot of fun. Its been more fun since we’ve gotten so close to Chad and to Whit, as well. Its every parent’s dream to see their child happy and I’m watching that fulfilled…there’s nothing more rewarding! Love, Kelly

Amy January 14, 2014 at 11:42 pm

Hi Kelly,
I’m not sure if you can answer this question, but I’m very curious so I’m going to ask it. If one of the children wanted to be open to life while married, but knew early on that they didn’t want to have a family larger than say, 10 or so, would it be considered theologically “okay” to purposefully delay marriage? For instance, at 17, if a daughter wanted to have a large family, but didn’t want to necessarily have 20 or so, would it be seen as sinful if she said she wouldn’t start courting until age 25? (which is no guarantee, but if a woman starts having children at 25 or 30 she simply doesn’t have as much time to have babies as a 20 year old does.) I know that’s a strange question, but I’m fascinated by the rope we (Christians) walk when it comes to determining your own life, but also following God’s will.

Reply

Kelly January 16, 2014 at 3:50 am

Dear Amy,
There is no set time for what age to begin a courtship. That’s a decision for the couple and the parents to pray about. There’s certainly nothing sinful in waiting to begin a relationship, in fact, beginning later can give plenty of time to mature and to devote to ministry, etc. We don’t necessarily encourage marriage at a particular age, but rather to have a goal for their life and to seek God’s guidance. Waiting on God’s timing is what’s important. By the way, trusting God in the area of your family size does not mean everyone will have large families. We know many who have one or two, some none at all, some 5 or 6…yes, some with 12 and a few with more…but the point is that there is no guarantee that everyone will have a super sized family. Our goal was never family size, but rather to just try to serve God and be content with His will for us. Love, Kelly

I just love all these posts and to see all your children getting married and courting, such a blessing and wonderful example you and your family are!!! I love being able to show my kids an example that it CAN and SHOULD be done differently then today’s society would scream! Thank you!

I really like the black and white pictures and especially the ones in front of the theater. Is there some significance to that particular location? I assume it was close by the church?

Dear Mms,
The theater didn’t have any significance; it was just on the route to the reception. Love, Kelly

Hi Kelly, you looked beautiful as the Mother-of-the-Bride/Groom. I wonder where you got your dresses?
