The Bates Family

Little Ponderosa Zoo

by Kelly on March 19, 2012

The children were excited to join Emalee Bean in celebrating her birthday at the zoo, where they had plenty of opportunities to pet the animals and enjoy a live tiger show!

Congratulations to you and your family on the new addition. He is beautiful. I also enjoy watching the Duggar Family as well on 19 Kids and Counting. I wanted to ask a question. I think this was brought up before but im not sure. I am trying to read through the whole Bible. Is it best to just go from front to back? Should I read a chapter along with a Psalm of the day or Proverb of the day? I would really like your insite.

Gil March 27, 2012 at 12:11 am

Dear Renee,
There are lots of different views about where to start. As a new believer, my dad had me start in the New Testament. John is an excellent place to begin. After a few months reading through the New Testament, I was anxious to begin some of the action packed books of the Old Testament. I’m excited about your desire to read! John Phillips has some great, easy to read books to explain some of the Bible books. Love, Kelly

LOVED, LOVED, LOVED hearing Tori, Erin, and Alyssa singing on the show. Any chance for a CD? I would be the first in line to buy it. Been searching for and finally found Trading the Old Cross for a Crown. I hadn’t heard it before. I liked your version WAY better than what I’ve found. You’ve brought so much enjoyment into my life.

Kelly, can I ask a favor of you? Could you say a quick prayer for my friend? We met way back when we were just 8 years old and are both well into our 50′s now. She is going to be having surgery and there is a possibility of cancer.

Gil March 27, 2012 at 12:01 am

Dear Patti,
I will pray, and will ask others to join as well. Thyank you for your concern for this friend. May God help you be a light to her during this dark time. Love, Kelly

Hello Bates,My family really enjoyed your show last week :) I was wondering if you had any ministry ideas for my family? We live in a VERY small town and the surrounding towns are so far away. We are surrounded by lots of woods & ocean and not very many people. Most people in our town do not want to hear the gospel and reject us helping them. Our town does not have a hospital or anything like that. We want to do service for the Lord but are looking for ministry ideas.
Thank you, Rosemarie :)

Gil April 5, 2012 at 12:45 am

Dear Rosemarie,
Have you thought of a ministry to those in the military? You could send care packages with toiletries, other goodies, and a New Testament. Or how about making crocheted hats for NICU babies and sending it with a Bible verse and New Testament? How about driving to the nearest hospital once a month to pray with sick ones and their families. You can take tracts and other goodies. One church here keeps a basket in the ICU stocked with snacks for loved ones, along with Bibles and other helpful literature. Sometimes people will turn you down if you come to talk, but they usually won’t turn down free service… offer to mow, pick up sticks, etc. Earn their respect and they might be more apt to listen and less apt to feel that you are looking down on them. They will sense your genuine desire to help. Love, Kelly

Dear Kelly,

Hello again! I just wanted to let you know that our Baptism this past Sunday was remarkable! I enjoyed every minute and with getting Baptized as a Christian with my 2 daughters made it even better. I have also chosen to live more like a Christian as well. Changing everyday has been a wonderful experience and with the positive outlook on life has been even better. Families such as yourself inspire us all to be better people. I just want to personally thank you for that. Would you or one of your daughters be willing to coach or mentor myself in your family practices? It would be such an honor to have that fellowship. If not, I completely understand. Thank you so much and God Bless. ~Julianne

Julianne,
I’m so excited to hear about your commitment and growth in the Lord! The best mentoring advise I could offer would be to find a good, strong, local church to become actively involved in… that way you’ll learn Bible doctrine, along with gaining prayer support and nearby fellowship. Love, Kelly

Hi Kelly

How are you all going with your precious new baby? My sister who lost her baby back in December is still no closer to having a baby in her arms. I pray each day that the Lord will bring peace to their hearts and will bless them with a baby who they can raise. Is there any bible passages you would reccomend that I could read? I know it is all in the Lords timing but seeing them so upset is really bringing my spirits down

thanks and God bless

I’m so sorry for your friend’s loss. For me, singing hymns and reading through the Psalms was a great comfort. I’m sure your love and prayers has meant a great deal! We will also pray for her. Love, Kelly

Kelly is there a curriculum you use in addition to the ATI?

Reply

Gil May 10, 2012 at 3:28 am

Dear Christy,
Yes, we use several different curriculums. We use wisdom books as a character lesson. We use ABeka math from elementary through Pre-Algebra. We use Teaching Textbooks for Algebra I and up. We use Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons for beginning reading. We use ABeka English from 1st through Language A & B. From 6th grade up, I let the children help pick their curriculum for English, Science, and History based on their own learning styles. Some of our children use Grammar Key, Wordsmith, Bob Jones, and Switched on Schoolhouse. Some curriculum choices are made by trial and error as an experiment, and they end up choosing a different curriculum that is more suiting for their learning styles after testing it out… but most choices are made after hearing testimonials of others, reading many write ups, and sorting through samples. The older children like being able to help choose and apply themselves more as a result of being involved. Love, Kelly
