The Bates Family

by Kelly on February 17, 2012

At one week old, on Feb. 7th, Jeb Colton came home from the hospital! He is doing wonderful and we are so grateful for the exceptional care from Dr. Anderson and Dr. Bass (along with the care provided by the many special nurses that assisted during Jeb’s stay)! We are also grateful for the sweet messages congratulating us on Jeb’s birth. The prayers for his quick recovery were answered and our hearts are filled with joy!

So thankful to hear that Baby Jeb is home and doing well!! If you can remember to pray for me and my husband. We’re expecting our 3rd baby in September and at my first appointment my doctor couldn’t find the heart beat. As I was getting ready to leave, she brought in another doctor and he was able to find it right away! I’m so thankful that I was able to hear our precious baby’s heartbeat before I went home. Pray that everything is OK with the baby. I couldn’t help but think of the Duggars when they couldn’t find their baby’s heartbeat and it really scared my husband and me. Our first child was a miscarriage, so we know the hurt of losing a precious child. Thank you so much for your encouragement and your love for the Lord. I always look forward to looking at your blog to see what the Lord has been doing in your lives. God bless your day with your beautiful family.

Angela February 18, 2012 at 2:56 pm

Dear Mrs. Bates,
I heard something about y’all being on a show airing March 27th.
Is this permanent? Like you have cameras on y’all’s life style, etc. like the Duggars? Or is it just a one time thing? If so, what is your show called?

Love your family!
Love, Glory

Gil February 18, 2012 at 7:33 pm

Dear Glory,
The show on March 27th is a one hour show. Love, Kelly

Dear Kelly and Gil,
Glad Jeb is doing well and at home now. I’m sure all his brothers and sisters, both children and adults, were excited to see and hold him for the first time. He is so close in age to Judson, that hopefully they will be best friends, as well as brothers. Please take time for yourself, Kelly, to enjoy this lil’ guy. He’s a darling. All the best to your family.

David I February 22, 2012 at 3:23 pm

Dear Bates Family,

Looking forward to your show on March 27th. Your family is an inspiration to many. Since you are gradually becoming more well
known, I was wondering if you have ever been approached by strangers asking for an autograph?

Gil February 23, 2012 at 1:22 am

Dear David,
We have been approached a few times for autographs, but it is a very awkward feeling because we are just normal people. I’d much rather give out a gospel tract with a great truth or an encouraging word or a smile, than our signatures! We have many mistakes and many faults. The fact that there are a lot of us might be a novelty to some, but its no different than the lives most of our grandparents live. We have it a lot easier, in fact, because of all the modern conveniences – washers & dryers, toasters, hair dryers, & on & on!! If you’ll look closely, you’ll see lots of things we need to work on. Our greatest desire is that people can look past us – past our weakness – past our strengths – past our family size – and just see a simple family that wants to love God, grow in His grace, and serve Him! Love, Kelly

Ann February 22, 2012 at 3:57 pm

Praise the Lord that Jeb is home!
I know that weeek must have been very stressful for you Kelly(I had twin daughters in the NICU for 3 monthes following their premature bith.In fact they are 14 today)The Lord never puts you through more than you can handle.:)
Jeb is a cutie!Look at his hair!
Enjoy your little blessing!

Jennifer Holt February 23, 2012 at 3:28 am

I am SOOOOOO excited he got to come home – we had a minor problem when we had Elise and it was our first complication – what a helpless feeling – and not being able to hold him much – or constantly as you want – no amount of children you’ve had before could make this one less painful – but the rejoicing when it is over. Hope to meet him one day.

Casey February 23, 2012 at 3:33 am

So glad Baby Jeb is home with his loving family! He is precious! Great job on the photos, Alyssa! Can’t wait to meet him!

Kimberlee February 25, 2012 at 3:20 pm

Praise God Jeb is home! Your family is such an inspiration for all. I thank you for allowing God to use you and your family as an example of how living a God first life should be. You are so encouraging and greatly appreciated. I purpose to search for positive media to bring in my life and pray for more to be accessable for those in need and searching and for those who don’t realize it yet that what they are missing is God! Please continue to use every outlet God provides to bring God into a world that would rather keep him out.

God bless you & thank you!

Laura February 26, 2012 at 10:09 am

Hi Kelly, so wonderful and Jeb is such a blessing! The photos turned out so sweet, as well. I hope you also are doing well since delivery. I had wrote to you Some time ago (and you wrote back) regarding courtship, had shared for your son our testimony.. when my husband and I met at church 20 years ago. my husband now has been in the military 16+ years, just celebrated another anniversary, while he is overseas. Do hope your son and rest of the children are doing well! My husband returns in a few months from his 8th deployment. Our 8 and (near) 11 year old are very excited. In Christ, Laura

Gil February 26, 2012 at 4:38 pm

Dear Laura,
We’ll pray for your husband’s safe and speedy return! Thank you for the service he is devoting to our country! Love, Kelly

gabrielle marie hoffmann

Gil February 26, 2012 at 4:36 pm

Dear Gabby,
The Duggars haven’t seen Jeb in person yet… but we look forward to seeing them again! We have several friends that have donated hair, but as of yet, our girls haven’t chosen to cut that much hair off at one time. It certainly sounds like a wonderful act of love. Love, Kelly

Amy February 27, 2012 at 9:36 pm

I’m so glad to read that all is well and sweet baby Jeb is home from the hospital.

We are enjoying our own baby boy (our fourth child) after an eight year gap between children. He is here in part because of the testimony of families like yours, and has been such a blessing and joy to us all. I don’t know any older Christian ladies who have raised large families so I really appreciate those who take the time to write, encourage, and teach on the internet.

My great grandmother raised 18 children on a small farm in Finland, with no running water, electricity etc. I often think of her and thank God for my dishwasher, washer, and dryer!

Amy, from northern Canada

Molly February 28, 2012 at 12:30 am
